I enjoyed checking out books at the library and being read to as a child, but my love of reading truly began when I worked at Barnes and Noble when I was in college. I specifically loved the children’s section. I have found that great children’s books are not only written for children, but for adults as well. It is wonderful to enjoy beautiful illustrations, find humor, discover a deeper meaning, and read about some of life’s lessons in a children’s storybook.
Even before we had children I started to collect children’s books and the desire to add to my collection increased with starting our family. Before my oldest was a year old I signed up for a ‘Book Time for Babies’ class at our local library. We really enjoyed it, and I continued taking her and my other children as well. As we have gone to story time over the years I have thought about how fun it would be to be to share my favorite books with others.
One of my favorite children’s book author/illustrators is Mercer Mayer. He has a knack for writing about frustrating situations in parenting and finding the humor in them. I have found raising children is hard work! Did I state the obvious?!? No matter the size of your family, if you have 1 child or 10, every individual situation has its challenges. Each age and stage brings joy, frustration, and growth. One of the most helpful tools I have found in parenting is humor. We could all use a little more hilarity in the stressful moments of parenting. Mercer Mayer’s books are sweet yet comical and can be enjoyed by children as well as parent’s!
‘What a Bad Dream’ by Mercer Mayer is the perfect book for a little laugh at the crazy moods of teens, tweens, two year olds and any age in between! Let me know if you are in a similar situation to this book?
Bath time and bedtime can be stressful times as well. ‘Just Me in the Tub’ and ‘Just Go to Bed’ are great books that you and your little critters might also relate to!
I hope you enjoy Mercer Mayer’s stories and look for more posts about my favorite children’s books!
