General Conference is this weekend, and I am so excited to share with you these super easy to put together General Conference Fun Bags. About 6 years ago I would print off those big old packets and expect my kids to be quiet during conference with their crayons and conference packets, and every year they would color a few pages and get really bored. They didn’t want to take notes or color each page in the 25 page packet so I waisted paper and was mad that my kids didn’t do the activities. Every year I didn’t know what to do to help them be peaceful and quiet and listen to conference. I saw a lot of cute ideas, but I knew they wouldn’t work for our family. I love the candy idea where when you hear a word you get candy for that certain word, but I would have kids being loud and getting up and down so much for candy, plus the fact that that much candy just isn’t the best idea for my kids. About 5 years I found something that worked!! We call them Conference Fun Bags!
General Conference Fun Bags
These bags are super easy to throw together. For that last 5 years I have used lunch sacks, printed a paper off with the general authors pictures on it, cut them out and taped them to the bags. Then I put 15 different activities in the bags and TA-DA! Easy Peasy! This year I decided to take picture cards and laminate them so that I would always have them and so we could use them as flash cards to help the kids memorize the General Authorities names. I also bought bags that I can store and use every year.
So all you need to do is get 15 bags and print off these pictures…

Then put quiet activities in each bag. You can put the actual stuff in them, or an example of what do to. Like if you do Play dough then just put one play dough in it and then pull the rest of the play dough out on a table later. I also like to print the pages my kids like in the conference packets and put those in a couple of bags. You can also just write the activity down on a notecard and put that in the bad. Here is a list of actives that we have done in the past.
- Fun Pages from Conference Fun Packs – HERE is a fun pack, it is from 2011, but it will still work and the pages are really fun!
- Popcorn snack
- Stringing Fruit loops or cereal necklaces with yarn
- Paint with Water
- Legos – Build a temple
- Eye Spy Pages
- Conference Bingo (They can work on this throughout the talks)
- Sunflower Seeds
- New Coloring Books and Crayons (I like to go to Seagull book and get cheap new ones)
- Play dough
- Play with Stuffed or Plastic Animals
- Eat a Yummy Treat
- Pearler beads
- Paint a Wooden Craft (I found some cute things at the $1 store)
You might be wondering what to have the kids do during the talks that aren’t the 15 apostles. The activities usually last long enough that they don’t finish in one talk or they can go back to an activity they aren’t done with. Also, some of the apostle might not talk during the session because they spoke at the Priesthood Session. We just kind of see how it goes. If you need an activity have the kids go pick one and then switch things around if you need to and put something else in the bag if the General Authority ends up speaking.
I also put some quotes up behind the fun bags to make it look cute and also to help remind us of the importance of Conference. I got them from HERE and HERE. We also played game in preparation for conference from HERE called “Do You Know the General Authorities” from my other site!
I hope you all have a wonderful conference weekend. It can be a very special time if you allow the spirit to speak to you. I hope this activity helps your kids to listen and be calm and quiet so that you can listen. It has helped my family for the last 5 years so I hope it can help your family!
