Brighten Up Your Bathroom With A Colorful Vanity Makeover
Last year my husband went out of town for business and I needed a project to keep me busy while he was away. I decided it would be fun to surprise him with a bathroom makeover. I knew however that the bathroom makeover surprise didn’t need to come by way of price! I had definitely had enough of my honey-colored oak vanity and was ready for a change. I originally planned to paint my bathroom vanity white. Once I thought about it a little longer I decided I needed a better pop of color than just white to help bring out the counter-top. (I would definitely love some day to replace the counter-tops and sink but that’s far down on my wish list!) If you are you tired of your plain blah colored bathroom? Here is a simple, inexpensive, and fast way to brighten up your bathroom with a colorful vanity makeover!
Those who know me well and have been in my home know that I do not shy away from both color and paint. For example, I have orange polka dot rugs in my living room, yellow painted living room furniture, and chocolate brown bathroom walls in my master bathroom. I’ll never forget watching a TV show a few years after we moved into our home. The person being interviewed in the DIY segment talked about the importance of making your living space your own. She talked about not living in a sterile environment with only tan or white walls and beige carpet, but really expressing yourself and your style in your home. She also talked about not being afraid to add changes like paint “just in case” you end up moving and need to sell the house. From that day on I decided that I would take my beautiful home with really “good bones” and start to make it my own! Since then we built a beautiful casing around our fireplace, had fun with paint color in our kids’ bedrooms, painted fun accent walls, and have plans for some big things in the kitchen in the coming months.
To start the project, I first found a darling new shower curtain. I then decided it would be fun to add more of the beautiful blue/green color from the shower curtain into the bathroom by adding that splash of color on the vanity as well. The minute my husband left the house towards the airport I quickly got to work! I knew I only had a few days to get the project done and I definitely needed some time to let the paint dry. Here are the steps I took to make my beautiful bathroom vanity transformation…
I am happy to report that I hung the cabinet door and put the drawers into place just minutes before my husband pulled into the driveway from his business trip. He loved the results and definitely loved the minimal price tag on our bathroom transformation! As you can see it was definitely worth the cost of a can of paint and a few hours work. I was so excited about the way it turned out that for a couple of days I kept walking into the bathroom just to stare at it. If I had any advice at all I would say… branch out of your comfort zone, don’t be afraid to add a pop of color here and there to your home, don’t spend the time living in your house wishing it looked a certain way but being too afraid to make it that way “just in case you move”, and definitely don’t be afraid to use a can of paint to brighten up your living space! What are some of your favorite fun transformations that you have done in your home? Please share!
